With 28 different companies showcasing License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology at the Baird Center in Milwaukee this year, one thing is clear: LPR hardware has officially become a baseline standard.
But as the industry-wide conversations at IPMI proved, the real challenge is managing the massive operational shifts that are happening behind the scenes. From municipal curb digitization and ticket-by-mail initiatives to optimizing airport and university transit, the focus has shifted entirely to integration, reliability, and real-world results.
Here is what we took away from the show:
Having a long list of features matters less than daily operational uptime. It was fantastic connecting with our clients in person, and a special shoutout to Houston Airport and UW-Milwaukee, who both reported continued great success and reliability with the company's LPR systems in high-traffic environments.
With systems becoming more integrated, operators are no longer looking for standalone hardware. The industry is demanding smarter, proactive management tools, like device health monitoring and automated mobile space auditing, that prevent downtime before it impacts enforcement or revenue.
The most valuable solutions are those that solve immediate municipal and campus hurdles, such as modernizing gated and gateless facilities, virtual loop tracking, and establishing reliable, wire-free solar power in un-wired locations.
